Presumably this is something that Samsung is hoping more smartphone makers will adopt because they have announced a new ISOCELL sensor designed for such devices. According to Samsung, this sensor has been designed to do just that, thanks to its size that lets it get tucked away into a tiny module which makes room for more display space.
The company has also reassured that they are not sacrificing image quality in favor of size. They claim that the new sensor will actually allow users to take brighter and sharper photos even in low-light. While they were not explicit, we can only imagine that this sensor will probably find its way into the Galaxy S10.
According to Jinhyun Kwon, vice president of System LSI sensor marketing at Samsung Electronics, “The ISOCELL Slim 3T2 is our smallest and most versatile 20Mp image sensor that helps mobile device manufacturers bring differentiated consumer value not only in camera performance but also in features including hardware desig. As the demand for advanced imaging capabilities in mobile devices continue to grow, we will keep pushing the limits in image sensor technologies for richer user experiences.”
