Touch ID On MacBooks Can Soon Be Used For Safari Autofill

When Apple introduced Touch ID on their MacBook Pro laptops, it seemed like a good idea and a faster way to log into the laptop as well as authorize payments. However apart from that, it didn’t really do anything else. However that could change as Apple seems to be expanding on the feature’s functionality.

According to a sighting from the latest macOS 10.14.4 Developer Beta 1, it appears that Apple is expanding on what Touch ID on the MacBook Pro can do, and that new feature comes in the form of autofill for Safari on macOS. This means that if you use Safari a bit and have quite a number of form details saved, like name, email address, home address, and so on, Touch ID will help you authenticate yourself before those form details are filled in.

At the moment Touch ID on the MacBook Pro can be used to unlock the laptop, make Apple Pay payments, as well as purchases from iTunes and the App Store. It would be nice to see Apple increase the functionality of the Touch Bar feature on the MacBook Pros, which so far have mostly felt like a novel feature. There doesn’t seem to be any mention of that in the latest macOS beta, but it’s something we’re sure MacBook Pro owners would like to see.
