Unfortunately all good things must come to an end as it has been spotted that on the Project Stream website, Google has announced that the initial test run has ended. Note that this does not mean that Project Stream is dead, it’s just that the test run involving Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has ended.
If you have participated in the test and have clocked up at least an hour’s worth of gameplay, it seems that Google is rewarding games with a free PC version of the game, plus a handful of helix credits. It is unclear as to how successful this test run was as Google has yet to officially announce anything, so it’s anyone’s guess as to what Google plans to do with this project moving forwards.
However game streaming is expected to be the next big thing. This is because it removes the barrier to entry where gamers will no longer need to spend much on high-end gaming rigs to get a good gaming experience. It also removes software/device limitations where in theory, games could be streamed to and played on any device.
