Turns out it is very sustainable indeed because according to the latest data from Sensor Tower, it seems that Niantic has managed to earn close to $800 million in revenue from the game since it was launched. The data showed a 35% growth in revenue over 2017 where it managed to pull in a total of $795 million.
Like we said, some did doubt the sustainability of the game, but Niantic has come through. In 2018 the company rolled out much awaited features such as trading and also PVP where players could finally battle each other, giving them something else to do besides catch Pokemon and take part in raids.
It was also probably helped by the fact that the game has a tie-in with the Pokemon: Let’s Go! series on the Nintendo Switch, where Pokemon captured in Pokemon GO can be synced with the Switch games.
