Every year YouTube does a Rewind video that basically summarizes the various videos launched in the year that have gone on to become popular/viral. However the 2018 YouTube Rewind was met with immense dislikes, quickly and ironically becoming the platform’s most disliked video ever.
This is because many have criticized the platform’s attempt to ignore/cover-up some of the “true” viral videos of 2018 in an attempt to come across more wholesome and family friendly. Unsurprisingly YouTuber PewDiePie did not take too kindly to the video and has since launched his own take on the YouTube Rewind of 2018.
The video seems to be a mashup of various memes and other videos which according to PewDiePie, celebrates the “actual videos, people, music and moments that defined 2018”. Of course whether or not you agree with his choice of videos is up to you, but at the same time it has managed to break records of its own where it racked up 6.7 million likes in 7 days, making it the fastest-liked video in YouTube’s history.
The video has also managed to amass 34.5 million views, which admittedly is still far behind YouTube’s own video, but it’s still impressive all the same. If you have a few minutes to spare, it might be worth taking a look.
