Oculus Rift Can Now Stream Live VR To Facebook

Facebook has the ability to stream live for a while now, such as the games you’re playing or if you just want to get in front of the camera and talk to your friends or followers. However it looks Facebook is now giving users more options when it comes to streaming, one of which is the ability to live stream what you’re seeing in VR via the Oculus Rift headset.

According to Oculus, “Today, we’re thrilled to announce Facebook Livestreaming is available on Rift. Now you can share VR experiences with friends, family, and the world at large, by showing them exactly what you’re seeing in your headset, live.” However as Oculus notes, the ability to livestream what you’re seeing in VR might be dependent on the app in question.

This means that developers of some apps could actually opt out of the feature if they’d rather not have users livestream their apps onto Facebook. However at launch the Echo VR, VR Sports Challenge, and Dead & Buried are some of the few of the hundreds of apps that will be ready for livestreaming.

In addition to being able to livestream, Oculus is also launching a new feature called Public Homes which is currently in beta. These are VR social spaces for people to hang out in, and you will be able to invite others into your “home”. There will also be robust features to prevent abuse, such as muting visitors, declining requests, and so on.
