HMD Global has done a good job of reviving the iconic Nokia brand for smartphones. It has been able to achieve this by putting out well-made devices with reasonable specs and affordable price tags. The company is now getting serious about selling its wares in the United States. For that reason, it has inked agreements with carriers in the country to sell devices through them.
HMD Global has announced that it has inked partnerships with the likes of Verizon and Cricket Wireless in th country. It also has a similar arrangement with Rogers in Canada. All of these carriers will begin selling Nokia smartphones directly to customers.
As part of this agreement, Verizon will get an exclusive variant of the Nokia 2.1 which will be launched as the Nokia 2 V. This handset will be an affordable option with its Snapdragon 425 processor and 1GB of RAM. However, it does have an impressive 4,000mAh battery. The pricing hasn’t been confirmed at this point in time but the device will be going on sale through Verizon stores and online from January 31st.
It may not be offering flagship models through Verizon at this point in time, or Rogers for that matter, but it goes to show that HMD Global does want to establish a footing in this lucrative market through carrier partners. There’s little reason for the company not to launch foldable smartphones through North American carriers down the line.
