Now according to a report from DigiTimes (via 9to5Mac), a refresh of the entry-level iPad and also the iPad mini 5 are expected for the first half of 2019. The report does not mention any specifics like dates we can look forward to or specs, but it’s not hard to imagine that Apple might be packing in them.
The report also lines up with what analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had said last year where he suggested that Apple could finally get around to updating the iPad mini, whereas in the past it was reported that Apple could be looking to discontinue it. Apple does sometimes hold product announcements in the first half of the year where new iPads or Mac computer refreshes are sometimes announced.
So the idea of an iPad refresh in the first of 2019 doesn’t seem entirely out of the question. It would also make it the perfect opportunity for Apple to finally release the AirPower, its wireless charging mat that debuted in 2017 but has yet to materialize.
