There was a time when the Motorola Razr was considered to be the epitome of mobile design. It was a mighty brand and Motorola had a lot of success with it. The company has tried to revive the brand multiple times over the past few years but since the industry has moved beyond slim flip phones, it hasn’t been able to achieve the same heights again. However, with foldable smartphones gearing up to be a major trend this year, Lenovo-owned Motorola may be thinking of reviving the Razr as an expensive foldable smartphone.
It’s important to remember that the first generation of foldable smartphones will be coming out this year. They will understandably be priced higher than one would expect. The cost will surely come down in a couple of years as the technology advances. Samsung’s first foldable smartphone that’s due in a few months is expected to cost around $1,500 as well.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Motorola Razr will be making a comeback as a $1,500 smartphone with a foldable screen. It may be launched as early as next month. The report mentions that this device will be exclusive to Verizon in the United States when it arrives in February. The details haven’t been finalized as yet because the device is said to be still in testing. There are no details about its screen size, specs, and features.
Lenovo is reportedly thinking about making 200,000 units of this device but it remains to be seen if it can sell as many at that price point. It’s certainly playing it safer than Samsung which is believed to be making one million units of its first foldable device.
