Kenwood Unveils Three New CarPlay & Android Auto Head Units

#CES2019 – If you were to buy a new car, there’s a good chance that you might be offered more modern alternatives to the car’s infotainment system, such as Apple’s CarPlay or Google’s Android Auto. However if you’re not in the market for a new car, not to worry because it looks like Kenwood might have some aftermarket alternatives.

The company has recently announced a trio of CarPlay and Android Auto head units at CES 2019. The prices will range starting at $600 for the eXcelon DMX7706S, and $650 for the eXcelon DMX706S. Both devices will feature a 6.95-inch resistive touchscreens, 1.5A USB outputs, and two connections for cameras. Given the price difference is $50, we’re not sure what the real differences are just yet. There was also no mention of any wireless functionality.

However if you have extra money to spend, Kenwood’s eXcelon Reference DNX996XR could be worth checking out. The price of this particular unit is $1,600 which is a $1,000 leap from the previous two models. This will sport a 6.8-inch capacitive touchscreen display, wireless support for Android Auto and CarPlay, 1.5A USB outputs, connectivity support for up to three cameras, and there is also built-in Garmin navigation with live traffic. A built-in motor will also allow the head unit to tilt and adjust to your preferred viewing angle.

Both the cheaper models will be going on sale this April, but the high-end unit will be released in March.
