It is unclear how this came about, but Instagram has since responded to these claims with a series of posts on Twitter where they deny that they have made any changes. The company states that they have not made any changes and that the algorithmic feed is still very much in effect where it will show users posts from people that they engage with the most.
According to Instagram, “We have not made any recent changes to feed ranking, and we never hide posts from people you’re following – if you keep scrolling, you will see them all. Again, your feed is personalized to you and evolves over time based on how you use Instagram.” Like we said, it is unclear how these claims of limited reach came about, but if anything this would be detrimental to the platform as it would drive away companies who use Instagram for advertising and promotional purposes.
There are still many users who would much prefer if Instagram were to revert back to a chronological timeline, which is what Twitter has done in recent times where they are giving users the option.
We have not made any recent changes to feed ranking, and we never hide posts from people you're following – if you keep scrolling, you will see them all. Again, your feed is personalized to you and evolves over time based on how you use Instagram.✌️
