Hulu Now Has Over 25 Million Subscribers

Hulu continues to create a space for itself in the crowded video streaming market. The company has announced that it now has more than 25 million subscribers. It’s a significant improvement given that this figure represents a 50 percent increase in subscribers year-over-year. The increase was largely due to the expansion of Hulu’s content library which obviously brought in a lot of new subscribers.

Hulu does point out that its library of exclusive content offerings has contributed to this growth as well aside from its original series. Hulu does have exclusive streaming rights for many hits such as 30 Rock, Lost, and ER. It has also been purchasing rights away from Netflix so that it remains the exclusive streaming destination for many popular series.

“Looking ahead, Hulu is in the best position to be the #1 choice for TV – live and on-demand, with and without commercials, both in and out of the home,” said Hulu CEO Randy Freer. The company mentions that viewers who subscribe to Hulu+ Live TV spend more than 50 percent of their time watching on-demand or recorded programming.

It’s pertinent to mention here that all 25 million of Hulu’s subscribers are in the United States. It’s at quite a distance from Netflix which has around 58 million subscribers in the United States aside from the over 70 million subscribers internationally.
