Google Pixel 3 And 3 XL Seemingly Received Netflix HDR Support

There’s no shortage of HDR content on Netflix but the feature is only available on limited devices that have displays which can take advantage of the extended color gamut on the video streaming service. Netflix maintains a list of devices with HDR compatibility and while it hasn’t been updated to reflect this, it appears that the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL have seemingly picked up Netflix HDR support.

Aside from the list maintained by Netflix, another way to know that your device is compatible with HDR content is when you start seeing the HDR badge on content within the mobile app. Quite a lot of Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL users have reported about seeing this badge in the Netflix app on their device. This suggests that even though Netflix hasn’t updated its list so far, it has enabled this feature for these devices.

There have also been reports from some users with these devices that have yet to see this badge within Netflix on their phones. This suggests that Netflix is gradually rolling out the feature for supported devices. So it may be a while before it goes live for everyone and the company ends up updating the list.

The feature isn’t linked to an app update and has likely been done on the server side so don’t expect to receive it after an update for the Netflix app on your Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL comes. It doesn’t need that.
