Facebook has seen considerable success with the Stories feature on Instagram so much so that it has started offering the feature on almost all of its services. However, Stories on Instagram still attract the most amount of users across all of its products. In a bid to improve the usage numbers on Facebook proper, the social network is now allowing users to share Events to Stories.
Even though countless reports have shown that Facebook is losing its young demographic to Instagram, the social network is still the place of choice for those looking to organize events online. The existing social graph that users have on Facebook plays a big part in this.
The company has announced today that it’s going to start testing a way for users “to share the events you’re interested in and coordinate to meet up with friends IRL” using the Stories feature. This test will take place in the United States, Brazil, and Mexico. Mobile users on both iOS and Android will get access to this functionality.
Stories with Events will have tappable stickers that provide relevant details. Friends will be able to toggle themselves as “going” or “interested” in the event from inside the story itself. It’s a good place to put event details but whether or not your Facebook friends actually check Stories on the social network is another matter altogether.
