If you’re a Facebook Messenger user who’s a bit sick of the mostly-white and bright interface, you’ll be pleased to learn that according to researcher Jane Manchun Wong, it seems that Facebook is testing out a dark mode for its Messenger app. If you’re wondering why this sounds familiar, it is because back in October, Wong had already reported that a dark mode was in testing.
However at that time it seems that the testing of the feature was mostly done internally. According to Wong’s latest tweet, the testing is now being done on a public level. This means that depending on where you live, you might actually see the feature available for testing and can take it for a spin.
Hopefully what this means is that the feature is getting close to primetime and that we might learn more about its availability soon. Last year Google did some testing in which they found that dark mode actually helps to save battery life, so for those who are battery-conscious, hopefully this feature will be available to all soon.
