This is according to a report from Canon Rumors who claims that they have heard from a source that Canon is expected to focus on its RF lens lineup for 2019. Unfortunately this could potentially come at the expense of their EF lenses which have apparently been put on hold in favor of putting out more RF lenses in 2019, so if you do use a Canon EF mount camera, it looks like you’ll have to keep using what you’re using, or maybe look at third-party options.
As for what RF lenses are expected to be introduced in 2019, according to Canon Rumors, there will be about 7 new RF lenses. However the report claims that while they will be announced this year, a few of them might actually only begin shipping out in early 2020, so keep that in mind.
These rumored lenses include a 16-35mm f/2.8L, a 24-70mm f/2.8L IS, a 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, a 105mm f/1.4L, an 85mm f/1.8 IS STM, a macro lens, and a non-L kit lens. Given that quite a few of these lenses are part of the L-lineup, it looks like they probably won’t come in cheap. Either way take it with a grain of salt but hopefully Canon will have some details to share at CP+ which takes place towards the end of February.
