It was first revealed in a report that the Call of Duty Companion App had been updated with details about a new mode for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode. It’s called Ambush and players will only have Sniper Rifles and melee weapons when playing. The limited choice of weapons would make for more challenging gameplay. Treyarch has now officially confirmed that this mode is indeed in the pipeline.
Treyarch’s confirmation was made on Reddit not long after the report about the companion app dropping the hint about this mode was published. Ambush is going to be available for a limited time in Black Ops 4’s Blackout battle royale mode.
It will take some time before the mode arrives, though. Treyarch also confirmed on Reddit that Down But Not Out is going to remain live for a few weeks on each platform. Ambush is only going to be launched once the clock runs out for the existing limited time mode. Treyarch says that it’s currently putting the finishing touches on Ambush so it may be a few weeks before this mode arrives.
Since only sniper rifles and melee weapons will be available in Ambush, they will make the Skulker and Dead Silence more “effective,” according to the mode’s description in the app. The Outlander perk will be important in this mode because “once the circle starts collapsing, it never stops” until closed.
