Cadillac May Lead GM’s Electric Vehicle Push

General Motors reportedly wants to push its electric vehicle efforts through Cadillac. According to a report, Cadillac is likely going to be the lead electric vehicle brand as the country’s largest car manufacturer is expected to launch a new Cadillac-branded electric car to take on Tesla.

Citing two people briefed on the matter, Reuters reports that GM is going to confirm this week that a Cadillac is going to be the first vehicle based on its upcoming “B3V3” platform. This new platform will serve as the basis for many of GM’s electric cars and it includes the battery system in addition to other mechanical and structural parts.

GM said back in 2017 that it will launch a new dedicated flexible electric vehicle platform by 2021 which will be the basis for at least nine different vehicles that range from crossovers to SUVs.

No further details about the Cadillac-branded car itself are expected to be disclosed on Friday. It’s unclear at this point in time when this EV is going to be built, whether it’s going to be a crossover or a sedan, and where it’s going to be assembled.

General Motors previously launched electric vehicles under its Chevrolet brand. The lineup included the Chevy Volt plug-in and the all-electric Bolt. It has since discontinued the production of the Volt.
