The ‘Bird Box’ Social Media Challenge Has Caused Its First Accident

It wasn’t too long ago that Netflix’s “Bird Box” movie was released, and by all accounts it was the platform’s most popular movie to date having been watched by over 45 million accounts. Unfortunately the movie spawned an internet challenge where people challenged each other and themselves to do things blindfolded.

If it wasn’t already obvious that this wasn’t a good idea, Netflix even had to remind its viewers not to do that, but unfortunately there are some who didn’t listen. According to a report, the internet challenge might have already claimed its first reported accident. It seems that a 17-year old from Utah decided to do the challenge and drove blindfolded.

Clearly this wasn’t the smartest or safest thing to do because the teen ended up driving into the other lane, hitting another car, a light pole, and a sound wall as a result. Thankfully no one was injured during the accident and the police are now recommending that the teen be charged with reckless driving.

In a statement made by Travis Lyman of the Layton police, Twitter Ads info and privacy, “Honestly, I’m almost embarrassed to have to say ‘Don’t drive with your eyes covered’, but you know apparently we do have to say tha. The stakes are just so high and it’s just such a potentially dangerous thing as it is: to try and do it in that way is inexcusable. It really puts everybody at risk.”
