Apple has been making short films shot entirely on the iPhone to highlight the camera prowess of its flagship smartphone. It’s a marketing tool that Apple has employed very well. The company has released a new “Shot on iPhone’ short film today. It’s a three-minute clip that tells us the story of an athlete from American Samoa, it’s a territory of the United States in the south pacific ocean.
The subject of this story is Eddie Siaumau who is a 17 year old athlete from American Samoa. The video was captured by director and photographer Steve Counts. It was shot on an iPhone XS with several accessories which include the DJI Osmo Mobile 2, NiSi Smartphones Filter Kit, Joby GripTight Pro Video GP Stand, and the FiLMiC Pro.
There are plenty of shots of the beautiful surroundings of American Samoa. The film follows Siaumau during his training in the gym and on the beach. It obviously shows off what’s capable with the camera on the iPhone XS as well.
Apple says that it chose to highlight this location in the latest short film because American Samoa is more likely to produce athletes that will go on to play in the NFL than Americans from anywhere else.
