It’s no secret that Apple is grappling with a slowdown in iPhone sales. We have seen the company pull in more revenue from its software services business over the past few years and it’s continuing with this strategy to offset the decline in hardware sales. To that end, Apple CEO Tim Cook has said that Apple is going to launch new services this year.
It has long been reported that Apple is developing its own TV streaming service. Many expected it to arrive last year but it seems now that the company is aiming to launch it in 2019.
Tim Cook said in an interview with CNBC’s Jim Cramer that Apple is going to “announce new services this year.” He didn’t provide any further details so it’s unclear precisely which services he’s talking about. His comments were in response to a question by Cramer about the potential services that Apple may be working on in diverse fields such as healthcare and entertainment.
The long-awaited TV service might be one of the several new services that Apple has planned for this year. There isn’t a lot of clarity on this front right now. Apple has been setting the stage for its launch, though. It has inked partnerships with major TV manufacturers like Samsung and LG to add support for AirPlay 2 to their latest TVs unveiled at CES 2019.
