However the exception here seems to be the AirPower wireless charging mat, which was originally announced in 2017 and slated for a 2018 launch, only for it to miss the boat given that we are now officially in 2019. Apple has continued to stay mum on the matter which admittedly makes things worse as customers are left clueless as to whether the device might have been cancelled or if it has simply been delayed further.
It was initially suggested that the project was “doomed to failure” as it seems that Apple was initially overly ambitious with the device, leading to reports of it overheating and with Apple unable to find a solution around it. At one point mentions of the AirPower were removed from Apple’s website, but subsequent code spotted in iOS and also job listings have hinted that the project is still ongoing.
Will 2019 finally be the year that Apple will debut the AirPower? We suppose that remains to be seen, but in the meantime iPhone users who want to wirelessly charge their devices have plenty of third-party options out there to choose from.
