Verizon, the country’s largest mobile carrier, has announced that it’s going to provide all of its subscribers with free span and robocall protection for free. These features were previously included in the carrier’s Call Filter app which is a $3 add-on and offers features like call blocking, robocall filtering, and spam blocking. The features will now be offered for free to all Verizon subscribers.
Big Red confirmed in a press release that it will be rolling out its free spam alerting and call blocking tools to all wireless customers starting March, 2019. Since the launch of the carrier’s Spam Alerts service, it says that countless Verizon users have been alerted to nearly one billion potentially malicious robocalls.
These features will be available for all subscribers that have supported with support for such functionality. Verizon will provide more information about how to sign up for this free service once the launch nears.
Big Red isn’t breaking any new ground here. Its rivals like AT&T and T-Mobile have already been offering spam filtering for free. It’s about time that Verizon went ahead and did the same thing, and now it has. The carrier has also implemented programs to ensure that its services are not used by illegal robocallers to carry out their activities.
