You’ll soon find that browsing YouTube through mobile apps is going to be a significantly changed experience. The world’s largest video sharing website has announced that it will now begin autoplaying videos by default when users are browsing the app’s Home tab. However, the videos will autoplay with the sound disabled.
YouTube says that this feature is basically meant to provide users with a preview of the videos that they scroll by. It should be enough to let them know whether that’s a video that they want to watch.
It’s calling this feature Autoplay on Home. This feature will be enabled by default. However, the app will allow users to disable Autoplay on Home should they so desire through the settings menu. They can also have videos autoplay on the Home tab only when they’re browsing while connected to a Wi-Fi network.
This feature isn’t exactly new as it was available for YouTube Premium members on Android since more than six months. It’s no longer limited to the paid service which also does away with ads and provides offline access for videos. All users will get this feature going forward.
The Autoplay on Home feature is rolling out this year for users on iOS and Android. It will be a few days before this feature becomes available for all users.
