Vivo had one of the most talked about phones of the year. The Vivo Nex took a different approach to eliminate the camera notch. It had a slider mechanism with the front camera and sensors that popped up as and when required. Vivo is out with another model of the Nex today and it does away with the slider for another solution. The Vivo Nex Dual Display Edition has two screens, one at the front and the other at the back.
The Vivo Nex Dual Display Edition’s design is actually quite similar to the first Nex. It stands out because of the secondary display at the back. This means that the phone doesn’t need cameras at the front and back. There’s just the triple camera setup at the back which can be used for both selfies and normal camera stuff.
Since there’s a full-fledged color display at the back, it can be used to frame selfies and for video calls. The triple camera system has a 12 megapixel primary lens with a 2 megapixel secondary module and a third lens with a time of flight 3D module which provides point-to-point distance measuring and secure facial recognition for the rear display.
That’s not all. The device also has something called the “Lunar Ring” at the back. Not only does it look appealing, but the colors of this ring can also either glow for notifications or to create diffused lighting for selfies in low-light conditions. It can even pulse to your music.
There’s a 6.4 inch 2340×1080 pixel resolution display at the front and a 5.5 inch 16:9 1080p display at the back. It can also be used to operate the phone as you normally would using the main display. Both happen to be OLED panels. The specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 10GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 3,500mAh battery.
Vivo hasn’t said how much the Nex Dual Display Edition is going to cost outside China or if it will ever go global, that is. It will be available in China starting December 29th for $720 or 4,998 yuan.
