In a report from The Korea Herald, it cites an anonymous sources who claims that Samsung could be developing chips for self-driving cars, and that they might actually be working with Tesla on the technology. The report claims that Samsung has been “aggressively” hiring software engineers who specialize in autonomous driving technologies, and that this could be part of a new division at Samsung.
However the report does note that as far as Samsung is concerned, their official stance is one of denial, where the company has denied various rumors about plans for a new business unit for autonomous vehicles or for vehicle components, like the chip we mentioned earlier. However if this report is accurate, Samsung is expected to kick things off in 2019 and will begin mass production of these chips for use in Tesla’s Model 3.
Like we said, Samsung has been denying the rumors, but at the same time given how Samsung’s various rivals, including LG, are exploring that particular industry, we wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung were to eventually get in on it as well.
