There have been a few reports about the Galaxy S10 having some sort of blockchain-related functionality. Some believe that the company will allow for cold storage of cryptocurrencies on the device and even let users make transactions. So it’s not surprising to hear now that it may be developing a “Blockchain Wallet” app.
Samsung recently filed three related trademark applications in the European Union. It sought to protect the terms Blockchain KeyStore, Blockchain Key Box, and Blockchain Core. Another trademark application has now surfaced for the term Blockchain Wallet.
The company filed this trademark application with the United Kingdom Intellectual Patent Office earlier this month. Going just by the name itself, a Blockchain Wallet would ostensibly allow users to hold cryptocurrencies.
No further information is available at this point in time about the blockchain features that the Galaxy S10 might offer. There hasn’t been much talk about Samsung developing a blockchain smartphone of its own like HTC has. So it would be unwise to assume right now that it has such a device in the pipeline.
The Galaxy S10 is due to be announced next year. It may be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona which takes place in February.
