Samsung’s 5G Smartphone For Verizon Is Codenamed ‘Bolt’

We know that Verizon and Samsung are working on a 5G smartphone together, that much is obvious given that the official announcement was made earlier this month. However thanks to the folks at XDA, it appears that Verizon’s 5G smartphone with Samsung’s codename might have been revealed to be “Bolt”.

The codename was discovered in a file named “boltq5gvzw” which isn’t that difficult to decipher. Unfortunately apart from the name, not much else is known about the handset save for its 5G capabilities. There are some who claim that the phone in question could actually be a separate handset from the Galaxy S10 lineup, meaning that if you wanted a 5G smartphone, it might not be offered with the Galaxy S10.

We’re not sure if this handset will feature flagship hardware specs or if the focus will be purely on 5G, so we’ll have to wait and see. So far pretty much all the major US carriers have announced that they will be working with Samsung on a 5G smartphone. Whether each carrier will be getting their own version or if it could be a generic model shared across all networks remains to be seen, but the handset is expected to be launched in 2019 which means we won’t have to wait much longer to find out.
