The report claims that the director for 47 Meters Down, Johannes Roberts, has been tapped to direct the upcoming movie, with Aquaman director James Wan expected to help produce it. There have been reports of a reboot since last year where apparently the studios are aiming for as many as six new films as part of this new series.
At the moment there is no word on who will be part of the movie and what story the movie will be based on. The previous series, also six films worth, featured Milla Jovovich with Paul Wes Anderson having directed all six. Both Jovovich and Anderson have since moved on to another Capcom movie based on the Monster Hunter franchise.
The previous series, despite being mostly panned by critics, managed to earn a whopping $1.2 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film series based on a video game to date (although there aren’t that many out there to begin with). There is no word on when the movies will be released, but production is expected to kick off in 2019.
