Opera had confirmed earlier this year that it would build a cryptocurrency wallet inside its Android browser. The company has followed through on that promise and confirmed today that the latest version of its browser does indeed come with a cryptocurrency wallet. The announcement was made at a blockchain event in London today.
The latest version of Opera for Android comes with a built-in crypto wallet. It will enable users to make transactions online and also securely store their digital tokens within the browser itself.
The Opera browser’s cryptocurrency wallet only supports Ethereum at launch but it goes without saying that support will be added for other coins in due course. This feature isn’t available on the iOS version of the browser just yet.
“We’ve decided to support Ethereum, as it has the largest community of developers building Dapps and has gathered a lot of momentum behind it,” Opera Crypto product manager Charles Hamel explained.
Users can get started with the cryptocurrency wallet by first downloading the latest version of the Opera browser for Android. They will obviously need to have some Ethereum tokens to store inside the wallet. If they don’t have any tokens, they’ll have to purchase them first.
