In a post on the OnePlus forums, the company details the tech further by explaining how the technology works. They also confirm that the feature is only available for the McLaren Edition of the phone, presumably due to the way the battery of the handset has been designed where they’ve upgraded it with different safety mechanisms.
“To overcome potential safety issues from overheating, our engineers altered the safety mechanisms of the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition’s battery assembly. They upgraded the components of the battery protection structure to allow for the larger current, and added an eight-layer protection board to the battery to provide more efficient cooling.”
They also state that while the power adapter itself will be backwards compatible with older OnePlus handsets, it won’t reach “warp” speeds when used with them and will only support Fast Charge. It is unclear if moving forwards this Warp Charge 30 tech will find its way to future OnePlus handsets, or it could be an exclusive to the McLaren Edition, although we wouldn’t be surprised if the former were to happen.
