In a statement received by Deadline, Netflix said, “We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years.”
It is unclear why Daredevil was cancelled as it was arguably one of their better performing series. It is also unclear if this cancellation might have to do with Disney’s plans to launch its own streaming service and also how their deal with Netflix is coming to an end. What this means is that the only Marvel series left is Jessica Jones which has a third season on the way, and the Punisher which was also renewed for a second season.
However based on how Netflix has been going about its business, it seems unlikely that either two series will be renewed following their upcoming seasons.
