While Netflix isn’t shy about sharing the number of subscribers they have, the company doesn’t really share how many people watch its shows. In a recent post on Twitter, the company has announced that its “Bird Box” movie starring Sandra Bullock was viewed by 45 million “Netflix accounts”.
We’re not sure if there is a distinction between “Netflix accounts” and “subscribers”, but it is possible that given that a Netflix account can house multiple profiles and can be watched on a fixed number of devices at once, there is a chance that the number of people who actually watched Bird Box could be considerably higher.
Also based on the fact that earlier this year Netflix announced that they had 125 million subscribers, basically it sounds like about a third of them checked the movie out. Unfortunately the movie which has some pretty big names attached to it, including John Malkovich, Sarah Paulson, and Jacki Weaver, has received somewhat mediocre reviews. The movie has been likened in concept to “A Quiet Place” which received rave reviews despite the lack of talking in the film.
Netflix’s previous movie outings have also been similarly received, like with Bright that starred Will Smith, which wasn’t particularly well-received either. The company on the other hand seem to be doing much better with its original series.
Took off my blindfold this morning to discover that 45,037,125 Netflix accounts have already watched Bird Box — best first 7 days ever for a Netflix film! pic.twitter.com/uorU3cSzHR
