This was something that Microsoft was going for with the Microsoft 365 bundle which was aimed at enterprise users, but now according to a report from ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley, it seems that Microsoft 365 for consumers could be in the works. This is according to job listings that calls for a product manager for “M365 Consumer Subscription”, with the job description reading, “The Subscription Product Marketing team is a new team being created to build and scale the Microsoft 365 Consumer Subscription.”
It is unclear what the difference between the enterprise and consumer versions will be, but presumably it might contain the consumer version of certain softwares. For those unfamiliar, Microsoft 365 is a subscription bundle similar to Office 365, but will contain Windows 10, Office 365, Enterprise Mobility Security, and more, making it a more complete bundle compared to just subscribing to Office 365.
Of course whether or not consumers will need such a subscription bundle is unclear, but it is expected to be made available as an option for users who might see the value in it. Windows is expected to continue to be bundled for “free” with new computers, so it’s not as if this subscription will change that.
