Major smartphone manufacturers are due to launch their first 5G smartphones in 2019. LG is expected to make a similar announcement at the Mobile World Congress in February. It was previously believed that its first 5G handset might be launched as the LG G8. However, a new report claims that the device will be launched as a new series instead.
A Korean news outlet claims that LG is going to launch its first 5G smartphone as part of a completely new device series. It won’t be a part of the G series and thus won’t be called the LG G8. The company is expected to launch the G8 separately in March and it may only have 4G capability.
A senior official is quoted in the report as saying that LG is still deliberating on a brand name for its first 5G smartphone. Prior to that, the company is going to launch the Q9 in January. It will be a mid-range smartphone with a Snapdragon 660 processor, 4GB RAM and 32GB storage, as well as a 3,000mAh battery.
LG has obviously not commented on this matter officially at this point in time. However, many will be looking forward to its MWC 2019 appearance to see how its 5G phone stacks up against Samsung’s.
