Hyundai Unveils Fingerprint System For Unlocking And Starting A Car

If you have a habit of forgetting your car keys then you would like the new system that Hyundai has just revealed. The new car system will enable drivers to not only unlock their vehicles but also start them with nothing more than their fingerprint. It would essentially be just as easy as picking up your smartphone and unlocking it with your fingerprint. The system will be built into the vehicle’s door handle and ignition button.

Hyundai revealed this technology at an auto show in China recently. It’s built into the door handle and the ignition button of the new 2019 Santa Fe SUV. The system would allow multiple people to register their fingerprints if more than one person has to use the car.

The encrypted fingerprint data can be saved for multiple drivers on the same vehicle. The car will automatically adjust the rearview mirrors angle and seat positions depending on the person using the car at any given time.

Those it’s not supported right now, a future update might also allow the system to adjust steering, temperature, and humidity settings based on the fingerprint used to unlock and start the car.

Hyundai plans to offer this biometric feature in the 2019 Santa Fe SUV in China only for now. The car itself will be available in the country in the first quarter of 2019.
