However despite the negative press, Huawei seems to be pretty upbeat and last week, the company stated that they expect that they will be able to ship 200 million smartphones by Christmas. Turns out that they were right because according to the IDC’s latest figures, the company has indeed managed to hit the 200 million mark.
The IDC’s figures also show that Samsung is still very much in the lead with a little over 20% of the market, versus Huawei who commands about 14%. However despite that, Huawei is still in second place as they had previously managed to displace Apple. Huawei’s Chinese competitors such as Xiaomi and Oppo are in fourth and fifth place respectively, with a command of less than 10% of the market each.
It is unclear how these allegations against Huawei and the decision by several governments to remove their equipment will affect the company’s performance, so we’ll have to wait until 2019 to get a better idea.
