When we say that the notch design is on its way out, it is because not only has Huawei opted for this particular design, but so has Samsung. The company had previously announced its Galaxy A8s which featured a similar cutout which Samsung is calling the Infinity-O display. It is unclear if this will be the design language that Huawei and Samsung will be moving forwards with, but it is clear that this design is definitely both Huawei and Samsung’s way of taking on the notch.
In terms of specs of the Nova 4, the camera seems to be a phone aimed at phone photography lovers. It comes with a 25MP front-facing selfie camera, and a triple camera setup on the back. We’re also looking at a 6.4-inch 2310x1080px IPS LCD, the use of the Kirin 970 chipset used in the P20 Pro, and will also come packed with 8GB of RAM.
Now admittedly the circular cutout isn’t as invasive compared to the notch, but it’s not particularly discreet either. We imagine that there will still be much debate about which design is “better”, but for those who dislike the notch, it looks like this will be one of the alternatives you can expect. Interestingly enough a render of the P30 Pro shows that Huawei could still be using the notched design, so perhaps the company has quite cemented its choice yet.
