In fact during a recent interview with The Washington Post, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai admits that fear surrounding AI is one that is “very legitimate”. According to Pichai, he believes that there needs to be certain ethical guardrails to be put into a place, as well as discussions on how such technology could be abused.
He adds, “I think tech has to realize it just can’t build it and then fix it. I think that doesn’t work.” He also spoke about the need for companies to self-regulate. “Regulating a technology in its early days is hard, but I do think companies should self-regulate. This is why we’ve tried hard to articulate a set of AI principles. We may not have gotten everything right, but we thought it was important to start a conversation.”
Like we said, Pichai isn’t alone in his concerns about AI. Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk has expressed his own concerns in the past, along with Bill Gates and also the late Stephen Hawking. There are also various organizations that have been created that aim to help keep AI beneficial.
