However if true, this would not come as a surprise. This is because several months ago, Google had stated that they had paused their investment into Allo, while moving the entire team to Android Messages and focusing on Google’s RCS “Chat”. Plus there have been users reporting that the app is quite a few bugs that has yet to be addressed, once again highlighting how Google seems to have “abandoned” the app which makes a strong argument for it potentially being shut down.
That being said, Google has attempted various messaging services over the years, but it looks like Google could be trimming the fat and trying to streamline its services. 9to5Google had previously reported that Google was planning to eventually shut Hangouts down which would see users migrated towards Hangouts Chat and Meet.
Google has yet to officially comment on the report so take it with a grain of salt for now, but maybe in the meantime it might not be a bad idea to start exploring alternative services.
