These little bite-sized nuggets are cooked in the store itself and are extremely tasty and make for a great snack on the go, but like with most fried foods, they can get a bit stale when they get cold. However that won’t be the case in the future as Lawson’s Japan has debuted Karaage-kun (via SoraNews24), a fried chicken making robot that will be installed at Lawson’s TOC Osaki branch in Tokyo on the 11th of December.
This robot will be able to make fried chicken to order and apparently it is 80% faster than conventional methods (which usually involves the staff at Lawson’s doing the cooking). We imagine that it will take a bit longer than grabbing a box of chicken from the display counter, but if you value freshness then maybe it could be worth the wait.
Customers will need to make payment at the counter where they will then be giving a paper bag. They then scan the barcode at the robot, insert the bag, and they’ll be good to go. Lawson’s has been making headlines lately for their willingness to adopt new technology. A couple of years ago they started testing a self-checkout system that scanned and bagged items for the customer, and a couple of months ago they also debuted a robot that could make dumplings.
