Film Shot Entirely On iPhone Wins The 2018 Turner Prize

These days our smartphone cameras have become extremely capable, to the point where they can potentially outperform some of the lower-end point-and-shoot style cameras in terms of features and photo quality. It is also why it’s not surprising that we have seen some directors attempt to shoot entire movies using just the iPhone.

In fact filmmaker Charlotte Prodger did just that where she filmed a short film titled “Bridgit” using just an iPhone, but not only did she do that, but her efforts were recognized enough to allow her to win the prestigious 2018 Turner prize. The £25,000 prize was awarded to Prodger by novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie at a ceremony in London on Tuesday.

Speaking of her win, Prodger was quoted as saying, “I feel very honoured, blown away really. It’s quite surreal. It feels lovely.” Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has since tweeted the news where he also congratulated Prodger on her win. In a way it’s kind of ironic that a film shot on the iPhone managed to win the prize.

This is because a recent blind smartphone camera test conducted by YouTuber MKBHD actually saw the iPhone X and Xs knocked out in the first stages, where it was trumped by handsets like the BlackBerry KEY2 and the Pocophone, neither of which were known for their camera quality to begin with.
