In fact according to a report from TechCrunch, it has been estimated that the game might have netted Epic a cool $3 billion in profit for 2018. Note that this is profit, meaning that this is money Epic earned after deducting everything else like their expenses. In fact to put it into context, DualShockers claims that this $3 billion in profit has actually allowed Epic, a single company, to earn more than what 29 countries made in 2017.
According to this Wikipedia entry of the GDP of countries in 2017, there are more than 20 countries whose GDP is less than $3 billion. Of course Epic isn’t the only company to achieve such crazy profits, but considering that all of this was largely on the back of a single game is pretty damn impressive.
The fact that the game is free-to-play and that it is playable across pretty much every device out there, this means that the barriers to entry are practically nonexistent, making it easily accessible to anyone and everyone who wants to see what all the fuss is about.
