AT&T Will Get Two Samsung 5G Phones In 2019

Verizon was the first to confirm this week that it will begin selling a 5G smartphone from Samsung in the first half of 2019. AT&T followed up with its own announcement yesterday, saying that it will also have a Samsung 5G phone to sell next year. The carrier has now said that it will actually have two 5G phones from Samsung on offer.

AT&T has sent out a press release today confirming that it’s working with Samsung to “bring another standards-based 5G device” for AT&T customers in 2019. This device will be able to access both 5G mmWave and sub-6 GHz spectrum.

That’s slated to the be the main difference between this and the 5G phone due in the first half of 2019. This second 5G phone will have support for a wider range of 5G spectrum with the sub-6GHz spectrum being particularly useful for improving coverage.

The general perception right now is that the first Samsung 5G phone due early next year will most likely be the 5G model of the Galaxy S10 that has already been rumored multiple times. AT&T says that it will offer the other 5G smartphone from Samsung in the second half of next year. This might suggest that the device may be the 5G model of the next Galaxy Note flagship.

There’s no clarity on the actual devices right now but AT&T wants its customers to know that it has announced three 5G devices so far for 2019, one of which is a mobile hotspot.
