When it comes to Android updates, most companies would generally prefer to focus on their latest flagship smartphones, so it can be a bit worrying if you use an older handset and are wondering whether or not an update will make its way to you. Thankfully for OnePlus 5 and 5T owners, it seems that the latest Android update is now making its way to handsets.
According to reports, it looks like the Android 9.0 Pie update is finally making its way to the OnePlus 5 and 5T, handsets that were released back in 2017. To be fair it was only a matter of time as the open beta for the updates took place a couple of weeks back, but it’s nice to see that OnePlus managed to release the update before the year is out, giving users a nice way to start 2019.
For those who took part in the open betas or who have followed the news and progress of the open betas, it seems that for the most part it is largely unchanged, so what you experienced then will be the same experience in the final release. Note that while the update brings Android 9.0 Pie features to the phones, it also bumps the OxygenOS up to version 9.0 that comes with other changes and improvements of its own.
That being said, if you don’t see the update yet fret not because according to OnePlus, they are releasing the update slowly to ensure that the update is installed without a hitch, and barring no problems, we expect that the update should begin finding its way to more users in the future.
