The holiday season normally brings big business for Amazon and 2018 was no different. The company announced today that customers made this holiday season record-breaking for Amazon. Customers across the globe ordered more items on Amazon than ever before. “Millions more” Amazon devices, such as the Fire TV stick and Echo speakers, were also purchased this year compared to 2017.
The company said in a press release today that customers shopped at record levels across every department. It also saw a significant increase in Prime membership. “Tens of millions” of people signed up for free trials or paid memberships to Amazon’s subscription program.
Jeff Wilke, CEO Worldwide Consumer at Amazon, said that in the U.S. alone more than one billion items were shipped for free this holiday season with Prime. Amazon’s top devices this holiday season include the new Echo Dot, Fire TV Stick 4K, and the new Alexa Voice Remote.
Amazon’s Kids Edition devices had a record holiday season as well. Customers purchased more Echo Dot Kids Edition and Fire Kids Edition tablets than ever before. A record number of smart home devices were sold this year on Amazon.com as well, which shows that customers are increasingly opting to make their homes smarter.
Seems like the 50 cargo airplanes in Amazon’s fleet have been very busy this holiday season.
