YouTube does offer an ad-free version of its streaming website as well as a music streaming service but you need to pay for it. The company normally doesn’t offer discounts but YouTube today launched discounted subscription plans for students who are looking to join these services. The new plans are the first major change to YouTube’s music subscription service ever since it was launched in 2017.
YouTube Music Premium allows on-demand music streaming with personalized recommendations, playlists, radio stations, and more. It also adds support for offline access and background listening. YouTube Premium extends this ad-free experience to all videos on the service, not just music videos, and also provides subscribers with access to YouTube Originals.
YouTube Premium normally costs $11.99 per month but eligible students can now subscribe to it for $6.99 per month. It charges $9.99 per month for YouTube Music Premium but students will only have to pay $4.99 per month for it.
Students can also take advantage of a new promotion that the company is offering. If they sign up for January 31st, 2019, they can get YouTube Premium for $5.99 per month. This price will be locked for the entire duration of their student membership, up to four years. Many rival streaming services also provide student discounts so it’s about time that YouTube followed suit.
