People tend to take unreasonable risks when trying to capture the perfect selfie. Sometimes they may not even be aware of their surroundings and this can lead to disastrous consequences. A young woman in Russia has found herself in hot water after her attempt to capture a selfie resulted in damage to precious works of art by Salvador Dali and Francisco Goya
The woman who apparently visited the International Arts Center in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in a group accidentally knocked over a structure that had two works of art while trying to take a selfie. This, according to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the country’s state-run TASS news agency.
The MIA has posted surveillance video online which shows three people looking at art in the gallery when a structure with two works of art falls over. A person can be seen behind the structure that has just fallen.
The artwork that was damaged by the fall includes a Francisco Goya etching from the Los Caprichos series and its interpretation by Salvador Dali. A gallery employee told the news agency that the frame and glass of the Goya were broken while the Dali suffered damage to the picture as well.
Yekaterinburg did not open a criminal case against the women who later explained that the stand was touched by accident when they tried to take a selfie against the background of the paintings.
