However Spain is hoping to take that choice away in the future, and has proposed some changes which includes the ban of the sale of gas and diesel cars starting in 2040. Now 2040 is still a very long way off and it’s hard to say what the future will look like 10 years from now, let alone 22 years.
However this is part of the country’s strategy on how they plan on tackling climate change, where they plan to eventually ban fracking, ending fossil fuel subsidies that will take away incentives from companies to pursue fossil fuels, halting new oil exploration licenses, and also plans to eventually transition to 100% renewable energy by 2050.
Spain is definitely not alone in their efforts to try and tackle climate change, but like we said, 2040 is a very long way off and it is unclear as to what the future could look like in terms of transportation by then.
