If bezel-less smartphones were the major design trend this year, it appears that foldable smartphones will be all the rage in 2019. We already know that companies like Samsung and Huawei will be launching their foldable smartphones next year. Add Oppo to the list as well. The Chinese smartphone maker has said that it will reveal more about its foldable smartphone plans at MWC 2019.
Oppo reportedly told some of the news outlets that it recently took on a tour of its headquarters that it will have more to share about its foldable smartphone plans at MWC 2019. The Mobile World Congress takes place February 25-28 next year in Barcelona.
“We know Samsung and Sony are working on a foldable phone, you can also expect more news from Oppo on that topic, maybe at MWC,” Oppo product manager Chuck Wang is quoted to have said. It remains to be seen, though, if this form factor survives beyond the hype.
Wang’s comments don’t make it clear if Oppo will only dicuss its plans for such a device at MWC 2019 or if we’ll get to see an actual foldable smartphone from Oppo. The company does have patents on multiple foldable designs so it’s clear that it has been thinking about this form factor like many of its rivals.
